Question by Eric: My external hard drive made my laptop crash and not start. Any ideas on how to help?

I plugged in my old external hard drive (5+ years old) into my 1.5 year old laptop for the first time this morning and it crashed my computer. Now I cannot even turn my computer on even though the battery is fully charged.
Anybody have any ideas?! Should I not plug this external drive into another computer ever again?

Take bat out and disconnect adapter for about 5 mins the reinstall.plug back in abd see if it boots. As for not plugging it in ever again, try to a deck top
