A friend in another state is paying me to take her math exams, which are administered online. I am afraid that the instructor will see my IP and realize that it is not local. Is it possible for me to make my IP temporarily appear as one from a different location? To hide the IP, could I use a proxy?

Proxy servers like Tor will hide your IP, but it is very unlikely that the professor can see the IP of which it is submitted, and even if they can they more then likely won't be able to track where it is coming from.
tl;dr If they ask her why her IP is so far away, tell her to say she was using tor a proxy server.
