Question by owen_yeo: Will a wireless network card still work if it is conected with a USB extension cable?
In our house, the only way to get the wireless internet to work is to sit literally just outside the door with a laptop. I am thinking of getting a desktop pc and could therefore no longer sit outside! I also live in Toronto and don't want to be freezing my nuts off in minus 30 degree cold when the winter comes around!

With a 3m USB extension cable, i could get a network card out through the window, but would it still work? If not, why? Is there a reason why it has to be directly attached to the machine?

Thanks for your time.
Thanks, but there is already a signal booster in place. It's a big house (20 people!) and i live in the basement - hence having to go outside to find coverage. The computer would be right below a window though, which would mean i could just thread the extension cord outside.

Just get yourself a wifi signal booster. Problem solved.
