Don't worry about impressing your friends. Try to impress yourself. Learning guitar is about expressing yourself and enjoying yourself. Learn what YOU want to learn. Play what YOU want to play. If you are enjoying it and feel a sense of accomplishment, that will carry through and your friends will notice it also. You are your own worst/best critic. If you can please yourself, you can please most people. Keep in mind that there are always jerks who think they can do better, or that you are not as good as whoever. Ignore them! Just try to please yourself. Go ahead and learn some good songs that you like. If you learn to play them well than that will impress most people (and yourself!)
